Never one to fall into the security of complacent admiration, it was over a decade ago that Kit Pop realized just listening to music wasn’t going to cut it, making the transition from avid bystander to hands-on technician with the acquisition of his first MPC at the age of 14. As those around him embroiled themselves in the works of cookie-cut pop artists and predictable countdowns, Kit Pop became a self taught student of beat composition, ensuring that whatever he heard came from his own hand and drawing inspiration only from a select few.

After a brief affair with the dwindling art of competitive turntablism, Kit Pop returned to the studio to further explore the unbounded realms of production, armed only with an impartial appreciation of any sounds he could get his hands on. Where his peers would delegate themselves to a single genre to master, Kit Pop’s inability to focus on one thing at a time would pay dividends further on down the track as he gained clout not only as a unique producer, but also as a fascinatingly unpredictable DJ. His ability to seamlessly blend an eclectic range of genres would quickly see him hyping crowds, playing large festival and clubs shows alongside Naik and as an international headliner. Also providing complex foundations for an impressive resume of acts including The Cool Kids, Dave Nada, Tittsworth, Spank Rock, Harmonic 313, People under the stairs, Pharoahe Monch, Tricky, Theophilus London, Big Boi, Flying lotus, Gaslamp Killer and many others.

Dissatisfied with an evident lack of independent artist support and promotion in his home town, Kit Pop founded the Paper Chain record label in 2007 in order to shed some light on Perth’s blossoming electronic music scene, becoming an ambassador for the cultivation of local talent through various self-funded gigs and collaborative events. Driven by his erratic nature, Kit Pop meandered between his newly founded label and his own projects with an impressive output that saw the culmination of several EP’s and samplers, countless festival sets and the scouting of talent in Perth’s underground production scene. Paper Chain exists today as Perth’s premier independent electronic music label incorporating a roster of international talent and fellow self-taught beatsmiths and live acts.
